Chimps (Year R)

Welcome to Chimps!

Mrs Watson, Mrs Cox and Mr Smith help us with our learning.

Remember you need to bring your book bag to school EVERY day. Our library day is Friday.

We go to the hall for PE on Fridays, but we may need our PE kits on other days, so please make sure they are in school.

Parents are always welcome in class at the start of the school day or after school to talk with the staff and to share in their child's learning.

Visit to St. Columba church

Today we visited St. Columba Church where we were learning all about weddings. We enjoyed taking part in some wedding preparations.  We wrote wedding invitations, learned a new song and created some beautiful flowers. After we had finished getting ready we had a pretend wedding, with Rev. Ruth.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this such an enjoyable learning experience for the children.

Queen's 90th Birthday

We celebrated the Queen's 90th Birthday by having a tea party on the big playground.

Balance Bike Festival

We were invited to Gosport BMX Park to compete in a balance bike festival with three other schools from Fareham and Gosport. We learnt to keep smiling and say "Great Race" even if we did not win! The children all did their best, had fun and made the adults very proud.
We have been busy watching our caterpillars grow. After a few days they made themselves a cocoon, and we wondered what was happening to them. One day we had a surprise, they emerged from their cocoons and were butterflies. We kept them for a couple of days in their butterfly net and then we took them to the field and let them fly away.
We went on the Life Bus and met Harold the Giraffe and Donna. We learned about our bodies and how to stay healthy. We are looking forward to learning more about this in class.

The Life Bus

We went on a trip to Manor Farm. We had a lovely time exploring the farm and interacting with the animals.

Trip to Manor Farm

We are really proud that we earned 50 marbles in our class jar. The children decided they wanted to go on an adventure. They wanted to go to the local park, stopping at the shops first to buy some picnic food! We wrote a letter to Mrs Hoggarth-Allen to ask if we could go, she wrote back and said we could, as long as we could prove that we would be safe. The children worked out to keep safe, they all needed to be able to hold an adults hand. We invited lots of grown-ups to come with us. Thank you so much to everyone who came to help.

On the day of our adventure we all wore reflective jackets, so that the cars could see us. He showed the grown-ups that we knew how to be safe near the busy roads. We had a look in the hairdressers and the Highlands Hub. we noticed a big van delivering food to the Co-op. Each family group chose some fruit and biscuits for our snack, they had to make sure they had enough money! We paid the shop assistant and walked to the park. After we had shared the picnic we played at the park, and then went back to school in time for lunch.

We had a great time. Several children commented that it was the best day they had ever had at school!

All the staff were very proud of how the children could demonstrate their learning about how to keep safe, and how to spend money. Now we are busy planning our next trip. we are going to visit a farm.

We have been learning the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Try using our story map to retell the story. We are turning our role play area into The Three Bears House. Do you have a favourite Teddy Bear, or a bear story? Soon we will be inviting you to bring them into school.

We played the "All Change Bear" game, sang songs, listened to a story about when The Three Bears decided to visit Goldilocks house! Then we enjoyed the picnic we had prepared earlier.

The children shared their Learning Folders with the grown ups, and there were a lot of very proud faces.

Some children are going to write to their bears to thank them for coming. Maybe the bears will write back?
