Home Learning

This year, children in Years 5 and 6 are trialling a new home learning system which we hope will give them more ownership and responsibility over their learning. Each child will be given a ‘Homework Choice Board’ with activities linked to their current Learning Unit (see below for a copy of the Choice Board or to download).

You will notice that the children have a choice of 3 homework tasks each week: 1 English, 1 Maths and 1 Creative. The expectation is for children to complete 2 of these activities per week (spending approximately 1 hour in total) in addition to their daily reading, spelling and ‘Learn Its’.

Once they have selected the homework of their choice, they can circle the tasks and complete them in their home learning book. Please ensure that, across the half term, children have completed at least 2 from each type of activity (eg not always choosing the Maths & Creative!)

Homework tasks do not have to be completed independently; please feel free to help them or complete it together. We kindly ask that homework is to be handed in on a Wednesday, so that it can be marked and handed back on a Friday.

For each piece of work completed on time, children will receive reward points. Certificates will also be awarded to children who complete all their homework tasks on time each half term. J

We hope the children find the tasks enjoyable and we thank you for your support. If you have any concerns regarding homework please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher.

Regards

Year 5/6 Team
