Visit from the fire service!
On Tuesday 28th November Year 1 and 2 had a visit from the fire service. Paul and Phil showed us the different equipment that they use and the outfit that they wear to keep safe. They also taught us some very important rhymes.
'Matches and lighters never touch,
They can hurt you very much.'
If we see are fire in our house, or we hear the smoke alarm go off then we should:
Get out, stay out,call 999
We all got the chance to dress up as real fire fighters and put out a pretend fire. The hose was very heavy so luckily we had Paul and Phil to help us. We then got to go in the fire truck and go on a journey to help put out the fire. Someone had to drive and make sure the lights were flashing so the cars knew to move out the way..
We had a great day!
We then had the fun job of removing all the weeds and dead flowers from the soil. It was hard work but as a team we managed to clear everything away. We were then able to plant our bulbs! We can't wait to see what happens!
Over the year we are going to be looking at how plants grow. We have been set a challenge by the Fairy King who lives in the woods around our school. A cheeky imp has been jumping on all the flowers and destroying them. We decided to take a look around our school grounds and think about where we could plants our bulbs.
We decided on the flower beds that are on the field.
We choose them because:
The children in Lion Class have been very creative over the last 7 weeks with their home learning projects. I have been blown away by every single one! What a creative bunch of children! Each child who completed the project will get a creative proud cloud! Have a little look at them below.
Last Friday we had a very exciting trip to Marwell Zoo! We saw lots of different animals including the tigers, leopards, giraffes and penguins! We then got to attend a workshop where we learnt about where animals live and how they are suited to their environment. Overall we had a great day, even if we were all rather tired from all the walking! Have a look at our pictures below:
Today your child should have come home with a letter for you. On the letter it explains everything that they need for the trip to Marwell on Friday. Just incase the letter has been misplaced please make sure they have the following items:
. Packed lunch (Unless ordered from school)
. Sensible shoes
. A coat
. A drink
. A backpack - We have to carry our lunch round with us!
We are really looking forward to Friday and fingers crossed for good weather!
During our Phonics lessons this week we have been learning about plurals. This is when you have more than one thing.
Eg One dog à Lots of Dogs or One fox à Lots of foxes.
We have learnt that there a few rules that we have to remember when turning a singular (One) into a plural (lots of) Here is a list of our rules:
If the word ends in sh, ch, ss, zz or s then you add ‘es’ as your plural
witch --> witches
If the word ends in a 'y' making the /ee/ sound then we have a rhyme to help us:
'Say goodbye to the y and hello to the i '
baby --> babies
If the word ends in any other letters then you just add 's'
cat --> cats
In RE we have started learning about Judaism. We have learnt that Jews go to the synagogue for Worship just like we go to church. We have also learnt that Judaism is one of the old religions! It is 2000 years older than Christianity. We talked about how the symbol of a cross is important to Christians as it’s a reminder that Jesus died for them. Jews have an important symbol as well and it is called ‘The star of David’. We had ago at making our own! What do you think?
This week we have been learning how to partition a 2 digit number. We have learnt that a 2 digit number is made up of 10s and 1s. We have been using dienes to help us understand what to do. Some of us have been moving on to some trickier learning and making different number sentences that equal the same number! Mrs Garland is very proud of how hard we have worked during our first week back. Have a look at some of our learning:
