Our Parish Church

The Church Connection

The Academy maintains strong links with the local church, St Columba, in Hillson Drive on a regular basis. Being situated just a few metres away from the Academy, it makes it easy to have a good relationship between the Academy and the Church.  Our local vicar has recently moved to a new parish so we are awaiting the new appointment.  In the meantime, Revd Sally Davenport is visiting the Academy regularly to lead Worship for us.

Church assemblies are held weekly at the Academy where local clergy or parishioners come and lead collective worship for the whole Academy.  Most of the sessions follow a format known as “Open the Book”.  Leaders involve the children actively in bringing a story from the bible to life in order to help them learn more about the Christian faith.

Throughout the year various services take place at the Church, where it is filled with the children, staff and parents. These cover the main Christian festivals of Christmas, Easter and Harvest festival, as well as the Leavers' service at the end of Year Six.

The children work very hard for these, learning songs, plays, poems as well as creating drawings that get used in their presentations and performances etc.
