As you can see from the slideshow, we had a great time ot Rookesbury Park. The children really challenged themselves to do their best and to try new, exciting activities.
We were proud to be leading a group from St Columba Academy because we had so many compliments from instructors and leaders about how well our children listened to them, how polite they were and what great team players they were. Our learning values were well and truly displayed for all to see!
Many thanks to Mrs Court, Mrs Smith and Mr Upshall for giving up their time to come and support us, and a big thank you to Mrs Main-Miller for organising another fantastic residential.
It was also great to hear so many positive comments about the team work and brilliant behaviour from the children who stayed behind at St Columba. Making all of those biscuits really shows what resilience is!
Welcome to Parrots!
This half term Parrots' Class will be taught by Miss Stafford, Mrs Main-Miller and Mrs Hoggarth-Allen with the assistance of Mrs Smith, Miss Jeans and Mrs Chorlton.
Mrs Laggan will continue to teach ICT on Tuesday afternoons.
The topic this term is Tudors - Miss Stafford is busy planning some exciting learning opportunities. Watch this space to find out more.
Don't forget, we are off to Rookesbury Park on Monday 13th June for our residential visit where we will be participating in sessions such as archery, abseiling, kayaking, climbing and low ropes. Be prepared to share your talents at the campfire!
PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays this term so please make sure you have PE kit in school. You will need plimsolls and trainers as well as your usual shorts and t-shirts because as the weather improves, we will try and get onto the field. On Fridays, please remember your swimming kit as Mrs Main-Miller teaches Year Five swimming.
Please remember that it is important to read regularly (five times a week) and record this in your reading diary so that Mrs Smith can record your achievements on the class reading record. Therefore, it is essential that you bring your reading diary and book into school EVERY day.
Maths and English home learning is sent home on a Friday and is due in on the following Wednesday. Spellings are given out on a Friday and tested the following Friday.
Writing to Inform
Parrots Class have been working extremely hard to design and write information leaflets on a chosen river. They did their own research and have tried to include interesting facts in a colourful and informative way. Here are some examples:
The Water Cycle - Summer Term
Miss Hooper has been teaching us about the Water Cycle (while she is covering the class for Mr Brown). Here is a display of our learning about the Water Cycle.
We learnt how to write our names in Viking Runes and created some amazing Viking Rune pictures.
Mrs Hoggarth-Allen was very impressed with how carefully we drew our pictures. Here are some of them.
