Sports Premium 2014-2015

What does the Sport Premium mean for my School?

Total no of primary aged pupils between the ages of 5-11(Jan 2015) 152

Total amount of Sport Premium Grant received £8,760

 

At St Columba C. of E. Primary Academy, we have split up the funding by the three key areas for consideration; Physical Education, Healthy Active Lifestyles and Competitive Sport. We have decided to spend the Sport Premium Grant on the following:

Physical Education:

Raising standards of all children in PE:

Objectives

Outcomes

Increase staff subject knowledge and confidence in PE teaching by buying into the Specialist PE Teacher Support on offer from Henry Cort Community College.  Secondary Specialist to teach PE WITH class teachers on a weekly basis in order to increase skills, confidence and competence of staff to deliver sustainable, high quality teaching and learning.

Increase staff subject knowledge and confidence in PE by employing coaches to teach PE WITH class teachers on a weekly basis in order to increase skills, confidence and competence of staff to deliver sustainable, high quality teaching and learning.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Purchase equipment to ensure that PE curriculum and teaching are well resourced and that all children are enabled to participate.  Ensure that there is equipment available to introduce children to new sports.

PE Coordinator to attend PE Subject Leaders’ Course.  Individual staff to attend PE courses as and when appropriate.

Purchase curling set, new netball posts, range of balls, badminton rackets, bean bags, skipping ropes etc.

Purchase storage trays and a new storage trolley to facilitate storage of resources.

This will cost the Academy around £7,500; Sports Partnership Specialist PE Teacher Support plus coaching for 0.5 days a week will cost £4,747, additional coaching will cost about £1,800 with the remaining monies being spent on equipment, resources and staff CPD including both costs of courses and supply cover.

Healthy Active Lifestyles:

Children have greater access to structured games at break-times and lunchtimes.

Objectives

Outcomes

Increase activity levels at break-times and lunchtimes.

Purchase equipment to extend opportunities for pupil directed activities.

PE Specialist Teacher to train 15-20 sports ambassadors so that they have the skills to lead extra-curricular clubs at St Columba.  Increase number and range of extra-curricular sports clubs that children can attend.

Play Leader to implement a range of games/sporting activities at break-times and lunchtimes to encourage children to be more active.

Range of resources available at break times to encourage children to be more physically active.

Empower Year 5/6 children to run after school sports clubs in dance, football, tennis and cheerleading leading to increased clubs on offer to children during Summer Term.

 

This will cost the Academy around £400

Competitive School Sports:

Increased opportunities for competitive school sports activities

Objectives

Outcomes

Increase amount of opportunities for competitive school sports for all children by participating in the Henry Cort Sports Partnership events.

 

 

Purchase new “St Columba” sports kits for teams to wear when representing the Academy at competitions.

School Competition calendar developed with the school games organizer from Henry Cort.

Opportunities offered to children in all year groups to participate in sports festivals and competitions throughout the academic year.

Range of sizes of kit to be purchased with St Columba logo on them to ensure that teams can wear a “St Columba” kit when representing the Academy.

This will cost the Academy around £1,000

Impact of funding

  • Children receive high quality PE teaching
  • Children develop a life-long interest in sport irrespective of their ability
  • Extend children’s skills within PE
  • Up-skill class teachers to provide more aspirational PE provision on a weekly basis
  • Extend children’s engagement and enjoyment of PE
  • Children are more active and engaged in physical activities at break times and lunchtimes.
  • Children have greater access to multi-school events, competitive and non-competitive
  • Children experience a wider range of sporting activities.

Evaluation: By Principal/Vice-Principal and LLT

At least one Governor to attend a competitive sports fixture and observe a PE lesson with a coach in each Key Stage.

Plans for 2015-2016

Continue to employ Specialist PE teacher from Henry Cort to provide quality PE lessons and CPD for staff at St Columba.

 

Purchase additional coaching in specific areas such as gymnastics to supplement provision.

 

Purchase equipment to ensure children maintain a healthy, active lifestyle particularly at breaktimes and lunchtimes.
