Solent Festival of Engineering

On Thursday 8th November, a group of Piranhas were lucky enough to attend the Solent Festival of Engineering at Fareham Leisure Centre. We saw lots of ways that engineering is used by different companies and organisations, and had great fun trying some of them out. From the smiles on faces and the amazing questions the children asked, it looks like we may have some future engineers in our class!

Building Iron Man robots

On the first day back in September, as a hook into their writing linked to The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, Years 3 and 4 worked together in groups to design and build robots out of junk modelling resources they had collected towards the end of the summer holidays. They had to consider which resources to use and how to join them, thinking about whether they wanted parts to move. All of the robots looked fantastic and some were even as big as the teachers!
